A transfer window is measured in figures — the fee, the wage, the release clause.
None of these numbers tell a player whether the club in front of him will make him better, or simply make him available for the next sale.
DIOGENE Player Destination Fit Value was built to answer a different question: not what a club is prepared to pay, but what a club is prepared to become for the player who joins it.
This is the fourth algorithm in the DIOGENE Algoritmi series, and the first written from the player's side of the negotiating table.
When a footballer holds two, three or four offers in hand, the temptation is to rank them by wage or by badge.
DIOGENE ranks them by environmental fit — how much closer, or how much further, each suitor moves him from where he already stands.
The method rests on six axes, scored from one to five for both the player's current club and each candidate destination.
Winning Pedigree measures trophies and finals, but only if recent and repeated — a title from a decade ago carries little weight today.
Competitive Level tracks the sustained altitude of the league and the club's standing within it.
Development-versus-Trading Orientation distinguishes a club that builds and wins from one that buys low and sells high.
Continuity of Employment looks at whether a club has a history of giving players in this position genuine minutes, not just a squad number.
Management Quality assesses the competence of those making the decisions — chairman, chief executive, sporting director — and Club Health measures the sustainability beneath them: the accounts, the ownership, the structural stability.
Two further mechanisms discipline the two axes that decay fastest.
A recency coefficient governs Winning Pedigree and Competitive Level, so that the last two seasons count in full, the three before that count less, and anything older fades towards irrelevance — pedigree is a flow, not a stock.
A second coefficient ties any trophy or high finish to continuity of the current boardroom: a title won under a different ownership, a different sporting director, a different chief executive is discounted, sometimes heavily.
Pedigree belongs to whoever is in charge now, not to whoever was in charge then.
Every score is set against an archetype — young talent, an established player on the rise, or a settled veteran — because the same six axes matter differently depending on who is being asked to weigh them.
The engine then computes not the absolute strength of each candidate club, but the differential between where the player is and where he might go, weighted by that archetype.
Two clubs of identical stature can produce two entirely different Fit Index scores for the same player, because his starting point is not identical for both comparisons.
What the algorithm will never show is a number with a currency symbol attached.
No salary, no valuation, no transfer fee enters the calculation, and none appears in the output.
This is not an oversight — it is the discipline the model was built to enforce.
A club's suitability is not for sale, and should not be confused with what it is prepared to pay.
The output is a formal, bilingual report: a Fit Index ranking across the candidate clubs, a six-axis radar comparing each destination against the player's current environment, the differential that drives each score, and a breakdown of which axes are doing the work for the leading candidate.
Every coefficient in the model is provisional and will be recalibrated as more real cases are recorded — the point of the exercise is not a fixed formula, but a discipline of comparison that improves with use.
